In the third volume of the Millennium series, Lisbeth Salander lies in critical condition in a Swedish hospital, a bullet in her head.
But she’s fighting for her life in more ways than one: if and when she recovers, she’ll stand trial for three murders. With the help of Mikael Blomkvist, she’ll need to identify those in authority who have allowed the vulnerable, like herself, to suffer abuse and violence. And, on her own, she’ll seek revenge–against the man who tried to killer her and against the corrupt government institutions that nearly destroyed her life
If the first two book of Millennium series were good, the third is even better.
I enjoyed reading every word of this book. You get new characters with new stories to tell, new discovers about the old ones. Salander is, as usual, in a continue fight for her life, this time having bad injuries after the fight with her father and her brother from the previous book.
I don’t know what I could tell you about this book, All that I know for sure is that reading it isn’t a waste of time. So go ahead, read it. You won’t be sorry.

‘The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest’ is the third novel in the best selling Millennium series written by Stieg Larsson, being the picks up where the previous novel, ‘The Girl Who Played With Fire’ left off.
The book begins as Lisbeth Salander is taken to the hospital. After surgery, she is moved to an intensive care ward under guard. The only persons who can visit her are the police, doctors, nurses and her lawyer, Annika Giannini, Blomkvist’s sister. Zalachenko is two rooms away. Niedermann is on the run after murdering a police officer and carjacking and kidnapping a woman during his escape.
These events prompt immediate action from ‘The Section’, a secret division of Swedish Security Services (SAPO), created for purposed of counterintelligence, and responsible for Zala’s asylum and supervision.
Evert Gullberg, founder and former chief of the section, asks Fredrik Clinton to plots to deflect attention away from the Section by silencing Salander, Blomkvist and Zalachenko. They form a working alliance with the unsuspecting prosecutor of Salander’s case, Richard Ekstrom.
Dr. Peter Teleborian, the psychiatrist who supervised Salander when she was previously institutionalized, gives to Elstrom a false psychiatric examination and recommends that she be reinstitutionalized, preferably without a trial.
Gullberg, who has terminal cancer, murders Zala in his hospital room and attempts to enter Salander’s room but is stopped by Giannini. He commits suicide in the hallway.
Section operatives murder Gunnar Bjork, the junior Sapo officer who was Blomkvist’s source of information about the Section. They also burgle Mlomkvist’s apartment and mug Annika, taking from her the copies of the classified Sapo file that contains Zalachenko’s identity and plant bugs in the homes and phones of Millennium staff. Blomkvist realized it and begins to investigate the Section in earnest for a Millennium expose.
Blomkvist hires Milton Security to handle countersurveillance. Torston Edklinth begins an investigation into the Section. After his assistant Monica Figuerola confirms the allegations, he contacts the Justice Minister and the Prime Minister who approve a full investigation by Constitutional Protection. Later, he invite Blomkvist to a confidential meeting in which they are to share information, who intends to publish his findings on 15th July, the third day of Salander’s trial. The government agree to arrest any identified ringleaders of the Section at the same time.
Blomkvist convinces Dr. Anders Jonasson, to return her computer to her. He also arranges to have a cellular phone place in a duct near her room, so she could have internet access. Dr. Anders Jonasson helps her face complications from her surgery so that she can remain in the hospital. In the meantime, Blomkvist, Armansky, Bublaski, Edklinth and their allies identify nine central players in the Section. Blomkvist and Figuerola become romantically involved.
Erika Berger leaves Millennium to be editor-in-chief at the Sweden’s largest daily paper. Henry Cortez, a junior Millennium reporter, uncovers a story about a toilet manufacturing company that engages child labour in Vietnam, the boss of this company being Margus Borksjo, who is CEO and major shareholder at the daily paper for which Erika is working. Blomkvist gives a copy of the story to her, agreeing to delay its publication until August while she confronts Borgsjo and convinces him to regisn gracefully.
Berger begins receiving graphic e-mails and threats from anonymous source within S.M.P, so she ask her staff to remain on alert. The stalker breaks into Berker’s home and steals private materials, including the copy of Cortez’s story. She engages Milton Security to help secure her home.
Salander discovers Berger’s plight and finds the stalker, Peter Fredriksson, and employee for S.M.P. Peter hands Millennium expose on to Borgsjo who orders Berger to suppress the story at Millennium or she will lose her job at S.M.P. She chose to run the story in the say’s issue of S.M.P. under Cortez’s Byline and then resigns. She is accepted back at Millennium with open arms.
Clinton, who has no idea about the information that Blomkvist has, arranges to plant cocain in Blomkvist’s apartment and pays two men to kill him. The plan is undermined by Milton Security and Blomkvist and Berger move to of Milton Security’s safe house.
The first two days of Salander’s trial proceed with relative calm. In the third, Millennium’s expose book is published, the officers of the SAPO are arrested, channel TV-4 runs a program on the Section using materials from Blomkvist. Giannini destroys Teleborian’s testimony, proving that the Section and Teleborian has conspired to commit Salander at age 12 to protect Zalachenko. She proved that Salander’s rights had been violated and that the recent psychiatric assessment made by Teleborian was fabricated. As a result, he is arrested for possession of child pornography, which was found on his computer by Salander and her hacker friends. Ekstrom realize that the law is on Salander’s side and withdraws all charges against her.
With all the evidence and credibility of the prosecution shattered, the prosecutor drops all charges against Salander.
Salander spends the next few months in Gibraltar. Being a legally responsible citizen, she inherit half of Zalachenko’s properties and wealth, while the other half goes to her twin sister Camilla. Suspicious about an abandoned factory in her father’s estate, she goes there to investigate. There she finds two dead women and Niedermann. After a brief fight, she nails his feet to the plank floor with a nail gun. She decided to reports his location to Sonny Nieminem, head of the Svavelsjo biker gang, and then reports the entire brawl to the police.
The story ends with Blomkvist visiting her.
