Description:

Mats Sverin was Fjällbacka’s financial director on a regeneration project worth millions. When he is found murdered, Detective Patrik Hedström must find answers. It seems Mats was a man who everybody liked yet nobody really knew—a man with something to hide…Is it just a coincidence that his high school sweetheart, Nathalie, has returned to the area? What does she know about who Mats really was?
However, Nathalie has her own secret. Something has made her and her five-year-old son flee to their remote family home on the ‘Ghost Isle’. And that is where she’ll stay and shield her son from the evils of the world. But, as the murder investigation draws a blank, the police have to dig deeper—and before long, everyone’s lives will be dragged into the light …

Review:

The seventh book in Fjällbacka Series begins with the funeral of Anna’s child who died at birth. If you already read the previous book, you’ll know that the book ends with a car accident. Anna and Erika are in that car and both of them are pregnant. As a result, Anna’s baby dies and Erika’s twins are premature born.

Patrick has health issues also but soon after he returns to work, he is thrown into a new investigation. Mats Sverin, the financial manager of the local council, is found murdered in his apartment. During the investigation, Patrick learns why Mats returned in Fjällbacka and what role he played in the project of transforming the ancient hotel into a spa.

Annie Tapis, Mats’s childhood girlfriend is back in town also and she lives on the island of Gråskär with her son.

Anna is once again dealing with a depression, this time being caused by her son’s death.

Unfortunately, I have to give this book quite a bad rating. Even if I am a huge fan of Camilla’s work, this book lets me down. Once again Erika is fussy, Patrick is tired, Anna is dealing with a depression… I feel like nothing changed, only the murder. I was hoping to get something different but, in fact, was like a was re-reading the previous book. Which kinda made me sad.

But, I have to appreciate the murder case. That one was good. Everything else is quite disappointing.

Rate: 7.5/10
